SIBU: Defending champion Rolando Lim breezed his way but Sibu’s Danny Wong had to live dangerously before scrambling into the last 16 of the 2015 Sarawak Closed Snooker Championship held at Executive 3 Snooker Centre here on Tuesday night.

30-year-old Lim, representing Sarawak Amateur Snooker Association, easily finished off Raymond Chew of Sibu Executive 3 Snooker Centre 3-0 (68-24, 54-5, 61-37) in less than an hour.

It was a lop-sided match with Chew, the winner of the recent Executive 3 In-house tournament, offering little resistance to the more experienced Lim.

“It was a good game and, hopefully, I can continue to hit top form in my remaining matches,” Lim remarked.

Danny, the evergreen star from Sibu Executive 3 Snooker Centre, took more than two hours before fending off the stiff challenge from Malvin Wong to win at 3-2 (47-64, 61-28, 67-11, 38-59, 64-26).

Unheralded Firdaus Fadzil is thus far the toast of the tournament. The title contender from Kuching powered his way to the last 16 after beating Sibu’s Jee Chau Kim 3-0 (64-32, 61-18, 44-33).

A total of 32 players from throughout the state are taking part in the championship organised by Sibu Executive 3 Snooker centre for the second consecutive year.
