Hundreds ducks dead in Barabai

BARABAI, South Kalimantan: Hundreds of ducks from government assistance to the farmers in the village Ilung, Old Market, District of Batang North Alai, Central Hulu Sungai, dead, Antaranews reported.

Chairman of Breeder Group Kerja Sama, Nasrudin, here on Thursday, said the group consisted of 11 people with the assistance of 1,100 three-month-old virgin ducks. Each member received 100 ducks.

Besides ducks, they received fodder, medicine and equipment from the HST Animal Husbandry (Disnakan) on December 5, 2014. Even they were provided with ways to raise ducks by extension agents from BPP Ilung.

“When handed over ducks were in good health and directly distributed to farmers to be maintained in cages prepared by farmers,” he said.

However, after around eleven days, a lot of ducks dead. Ducks after being fed fall, floundered and died. The average death reached fifty percent.

After consultation with local field guidance agents, it was bama fodder given in poor quality, expired and moldy. The color was brown. Breeders immediately stop feeding with bama.

Feeding subsequently made by the breeder of a mixture of rice and bran. This was a replacement feeding can reduce mortality.

Head of Animal Breeding of HST Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Agency Suriyanor said it had sent the duck carcass to the laboratory.

“Samples duck carcasses and feed samples have been sent to the laboratory help to determine the cause of death of ducks.” he says.

According to him, the replacement of dead ducks is not possible, because the procurement process has been completed by a third party. while if the problematic feed it will complain to the provider company.
