KUCHING: The Marine police detained a lorry driver and seized 60 logs suspected to have been illegally extracted from a camp in Sungai Paoh in Sarikei worth RM134,500 on Tuesday.

Sarawak Marine Police Commander ACP Kalai Chelvan Nadarajah said in a statement that a raid was conducted on the camp at 5.10pm.

Code-named ‘Ops Pensura’, the raid was the result of a tip-off.

During the operation, a lorry loaded with various sizes and types of logs was stopped when exiting the camp.

The initial investigation showed that there was no verification or stamps from the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) on the logs.

The lorry driver was also held for further investigation and the loads were seized as exhibits.

A police report has been lodged at the Sarikei police station and the case will be handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation.
