Moderate earthquake hits Northern Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit the west coast of northern Sumatra at 11.24pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department, in a statement, said that the quake’s epicentre was 35km southwest of Simeulue, Indonesia and 579km southwest of Lumut, Perak.

The Meteorological Department is monitoring the development and will update any latest development. — BERNAMA
