GEORGE TOWN: Two Myanmar men wanted by police to assist in the investigation into the murder of several fellow nationals in Penang are believed to have fled the state.
Penang police chief, Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the two men in their 30s and 40s disappeared after their photographs were published in the press recently.
“Based on the police investigation, we believe that the two men have left Penang but are still in Malaysia and we are tracking them down.
“I appeal to those who know them or have seen them anywhere to contact the police to facilitate the investigation,” he told reporters after officiating at the Penang police contingent’s Community Day programme, here, yesterday.
Since early this year, 18 homicide cases involving Myanmar nationals have been reported in Penang.
Initially, the bodies were wrapped in white cloth and left by the roadside.
However, since last month, the victims were dismembered and their body parts dumped in several locations in the state.
Abdul Rahim said besides the two suspects, police were also looking for two other Myanmar nationals in their 20s to assist in the investigation.
“The identity and photographs of the two men will be distributed to the media soon,” he said.
So far, police have detained 12 men from Myanmar to assist in the investigation into the murder of their countrymen. — Bernama
