KUCHING: A woman who falsely claimed to be a ‘Datuk’ and gave false information to the police about being robbed was fined RM1,000, in default three months’ jail by a magistrates’ court.

Nurshamsina Sani, 26, from Kampung Mata Parang, Kota Samarahan appeared before Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng who handed down the sentence after she pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 182 of the Penal Code which provides for an imprisonment term up to six months and fine up to RM2,000, or both.

According to the facts of the case, on Dec 12 this year, a policeman on duty at the One Stop Centre in Kuching District Police Station at Jalan Simpang Tiga was told that Nurshamsina had lodged a police report at Padungan Police Station that she was robbed of cash and mobile phones at a night spot at Ban Hock Road around 12.30am by a group of 10 men.

She also claimed that one-and-a-half hours later on the same day, another group came and took away her handbag containing her MyKad, bank cards, a Datukship certificate and RM10,000 cash.

Later however Nurshamsina confessed that the mobile phone was given to the group as a guarantee that she would pay them for a task she wanted them to do; and that she handed the cash to the men as payment for completing the task.

She confessed that she was not a Datuk and had made up the story about being robbed.

Inspector Ezan Suhaila Sulaiman prosecuted.
