SIBU: A man found dead at the back lane of a hotel here early Wednesday morning at Lanang Road was believed to have committed suicide, going by a suicide note left behind.

Police found a piece of paper believed to be a suicide note left by the forty-year-old who was found with tyre marks on his back and blood coming out from both of his ears.

Initially, he was said to have been a victim of a hit-and-run.

At that moment, the case was investigated under a sudden death report.

But the incident unravelled yesterday when police received a report from the hotel management on Wednesday about a missing hotel guest.

A spokesman of the hotel said the guest who checked in at 8.30am on Tuesday was supposed to check out the next day.

Suspicions were aroused on Wednesday when the guest went missing but left behind two smartphones, slippers, cigarettes, a cover containing gum and a sling bag in his room.

A housekeeping staff found that the key was still in the room.

The hotel management duly lodged a police report on the incident the same day.

Initial police investigation showed the guest was the deceased found behind the hotel. Police learned that the window of the room where he stayed was closed.

Then they found a piece of paper believed to be a suicide note on a table next to the bed.

The man’s sister-in-law said he had borrowed a motorcycle from her husband to go out on Tuesday morning and said he would return home.

When he did not show up, the woman lodged a police report at 7.30pm on Wednesday night only to find that he had died in the early hours.

His body was scheduled for post mortem on Monday.
