KUALA BERANG: Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari yesterday dismissed a video and a photograph on social media giving the impression that the Kenyir Dam has burst and water from the lake had flooded nearby villages.
He said there was no truth to the video and the photograph of a landslide that went viral on social media, and that they were not related to the Sultan Mahmud Power Station there.
“I advise the people to stop circulating the false news because it will cause people to panic,” he told reporters after a visit to several villages in Hulu Terengganu.
Jailani, who is the MP for Hulu Terengganu, said the level of the water at the dam was normal.
During the visit, Jailani handed over more than 100 mattresses, blankets and food to flood victims.
As of 6pm yesterday, 2,225 people in the district had been evacuated to 29 relief centres following floods caused by heavy rain. — Bernama
