Jan 14 for further mention for man charged with killing his uncle

KUCHING: A man charged with killing his uncle had his case adjourned to Jan 14 for further mention in a High Court here.

The accused Wilson Peter, 24, from Kampung Subang had pleaded not guilty before Justice Yew Jen Kie who ordered him to be further remanded in jail as the offence was non-bailable. Wilson will be tried under Section 302 of the Penal Code that provides for a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The accused allegedly killed Davit Taip, 42, in a village in Padawan around 7pm on Aug 3 last year. It was reported that the nephew was drinking with his uncle and other fellow villagers when a misunderstanding broke out between them.

The accused was said to have lost his temper and taken a dangerous weapon to hit his uncle. He surrendered to the police two days after the incident.

DPP Noor Fadzilla Ishak prosecuted while defence counsel Abdul Rahman Mohd Hazmi represented the accused.

In another case, a man pleaded guilty to an amended charge of intentionally causing hurt to a fellow villager in a Sessions Court.

Mohamad Hafizul Bolki, 28, was offered the lighter charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code and the trial is set for this week before judge Dayang Ellyna Narisa Abang Ahmad. The Section provides for up to three years’ jail or with fine or whipping if convicted.

The accused allegedly inflicted serious injuries on Roslan Bujang, 30, at the stairway of a shopping mall in Kota Samarahan at about 10.40pm on Aug 23 last year. Mohamad Hafizul was represented by lawyer Lim Lian Kee while DPP Poh Yih Tinn prosecuted.
