SIBU: Police here caught a man who allegedly burnt a stolen lorry and wrote the name of a D4 unit policeman on the vehicle to challenge him.

The 30-year-old suspect was picked up at his house at Mile 33, Oya Road at 1.30pm on Wednesday when he was bathing. His body smelt of petrol.

The suspect allegedly stole the lorry, with the help of several men from a construction site, at Mile 12 Oya Road early last Saturday morning. He allegedly set fire to the lorry and abandoned it at the roadside at Stapang.

According to police, they found another lorry which had been dismantled at the back of a house belonging to the suspect’s accomplice.

Police believe there were three men involved in the lorry theft. The others are still at large.

The group was said to have tied the worker’s hands and blindfolded him at the site before taking him away and driving off the lorry.

The employer’s son arrived at the site that morning and found the 10-tonne lorry missing along with the worker who had just worked for two days.

The worker, who was later found at Selangau-Mukah Road, claimed to have been threatened by the group who took him away by force.

The employer lodged a police report at Selangau Police Station. The case was referred to Sibu Police Station where the suspect was detained and remanded for four days to assist police investigation.
