KUCHING: Maxis Bhd’s prepaid brand Hotlink will organise its first-ever ‘Youth4aCause’ – a singing competition that enables Sarawakian youths to do their bid for charity.

According to Maxis head of Sarawak region Alexius Bong, the special initiative will take place this weekend at CityONE Megamall here and all proceeds from those who vote during the competition will go to charity.

“It’s always a privilege for us to do our part for charity during the festive season. We are very pleased to organise ‘Youth4aCause’ for the first time,” he said during a special Christmas party specially held for residents of The Salvation Army, Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS), and Association for the Welfare of Intellectually Disabled Children (Perkata) at CityONE Megamall yesterday.

Bong said members of the public could show their support via voting, by way of purchasing tokens and placing them at the designated voting board during the competition – which is open to aspiring singers aged between 12 and 30.

The qualifying round of ‘Youth4aCause’ will be held on Dec 20 where the top 10 participants will be selected and proceed to the final on Dec 21.

The winner, who will bag the grand prize of RM2,000, will be picked among the top three finalists based on judges’ scores (50 per cent) and votes (50 per cent).

Meanwhile, the 70 guests from all three charity homes were treated to a fun-filled day, which saw Bong and his team – including Maxis’ head of corporate affairs Mariam Bevi Batcha and its corporate affairs senior manager Keith Pereira – distributing Christmas gifts via a special ‘Christmas Train’.

The charity homes also each received RM10,000 from the telecommunications group.

“Maxis (through Hotlink) aims at not only to enhance the lifestyle of the community, but also to continuously give back to society. The special event today (yesterday) is a testament of the group’s contribution to society, especially the children,” Bong said.

In addition to this, Hotlink will also bring Malaysia’s popular YouTube singing sensation Elizabeth Tan closer to her fans her during a four-hour session at CityONE Megamall on Dec 21, scheduled to begin at 2pm.

Hotlink customers have a chance to win ‘Meet & Greet’ passes and enjoy free RM5 credit by simply downloading and flashing the Hotlink RED app.
