SINGAPORE: A teenager was among two Malaysians suspected of being drug couriers, detained by the Singapore authorities in separate incidents here yesterday.
Seized from the suspects were 5.9kg of cannabis and 465g of heroin with an estimated street value of more than S$227,000 (S$1=RM2.64).
In a joint press release, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said the suspects, aged 18 and 23, were nabbed at the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints respectively.
In the first incident at 7.55pm, ICA officers conducted a routine check on a Malaysia-registered car driven by the teenager upon arrival at the Woodlands Checkpoint. They found two blocks in white wrapping, suspected to be cannabis, from the front engine’s air filter compartment before alerting CNB officers.
A further search of the vehicle led to the seizure of four more blocks, suspected to be cannabis, hidden behind the driver’s seat backrest and the front passenger’s seat backrest.
A total of six blocks of cannabis, weighing about 5.9g were seized.
Almost two hours later, ICA officers at the Tuas Checkpoint stopped another Malaysia-registered car upon arrival for routine checks.
During their checks, the officers found a black bundle containing about 465g of heroin in the arm rest compartment and picked up the 23-year-old driver. — Bernama
