MIRI: Education presents no barrier to any race or ethnic groups to be successful, as long as there is strong motivation to take the leap to succeed in life.

A walking example is Nataniel Mawa, a Penan, who made it to one of the oil and gas companies, Oceancare Corporation Sdn Bhd (OCSB).

Nataniel, who originates from Long Rayeh, Ulu Limbang, secured the assistant technical engineer post at the company recently.

“I will prove that Penans are also capable to be on par with other races in the country,” he said yesterday.

According to him, he was grateful to have the big opportunity to serve in the big company after his graduation from Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS) upon completing his course of Diploma in Mechatronics.

He also aims to bring about change and transformation to the quality of life for his family, as well as strive to be a shining example for other Penan.

Meanwhile, OCSB president Datuk Nelson Balang Rining said the story of Nataniel will bring an impact not only in the Penan community but also as motivation to other minority groups in rural areas, especially the young adults and students.

“Nataniel is proof that a young Penan from the remote can achieve success in higher education as well as securing a good job in any company,” Nelson added.

Nelson emphasized that the hiring of Nataniel as one of the staff in the company is completely based on his education qualification, not because of a special merit or any specific quota.

Also present at the simple ceremony of presentation of an appointment letter were OCSB vice-president, Lana Lim Ai Lin and Human Resources manager Farrawida Abdullah.
