Pezzo plans to open 40 pizza restaurants in Sabah, Sarawak

KOTA KINABALU: Singapore’s popular pizza restaurant, Pezzo, is planning to open 40 outlets in Sabah and Sarawak in the next few years.

Its director, Guan Kiat Soh, said Pezzo had become a hit in Singapore.

“Large space is not really required. We don’t need one thousand or three thousand square feet, around one hundred or three hundred is enough,” he said when introducing the Pezzo outlet, its first in Malaysia, at Jalan Pantai here yesterday.

“We are a young company, however, we are fast growing,” he said, adding Pezzo first opened in Singapore in November 2012 and now has 24 outlets.

According to Guan, they have planned to open around 30 outlets in Singapore in 2015 and also looking to expand outside Singapore.

He disclosed that the Pezzo outlet here was set up through a partnership with Borneo Oil Berhad, the owner of SugarBun, another successful food company based in Sarawak.

“We have made enquiries in West Malaysia and we are ready to open there,” he added.

The concept of Pezzo is as a quick service restaurant. Customers can simply grab a slice of pizza and head off, or stay for a drink and relax.

According to Guan, the concept is called “Grab and Go”, hence this makes Pezzo stands out from the other pizza restaurants.

The Carnival and Gala Series of pizzas are available to those who are interested in stopping by and having a taste of what Pezzo has to offer.

The Carnival Series sells for RM5.90 per slice while the Gala is RM6.90 a slice.

The word “pezzo” is Italian for “slice”, hence the name of the outlet, which sells by the slice, though they do offer whole pans (six pieces) and half pans (three pieces) for sale as well.

But what makes Pezzo stands out from the other pizza eateries in town is the size of its pizzas.

“We are not stingy about how much we give,” Guan said when talking about the pizzas. “Customers are also given the chance to choose which slices they want and then make their own pizza-pie.”

He added that people could also “design” their own pizzas by mixing and matching the ingredients to suit their taste.

Pezzo will be giving away 1,000 slices of free pizza during its soft launching today.
