KUANTAN: Some residents in the Paya Besar parliamentary constituency have been found registering at flood evacuation centres merely to obtain assistance.
Paya Besar Umno division head Datuk Abdul Manan Ismail described the act as irresponsible and regretted that there were villagers taking advantage of the situation.
“I am disppointed after being informed that there were residents taking advantage to register as flood victims at evacuation centres when their houses were not affected by floods at all.
“They should be honest and not to play with such matters. Please sympathise with the real flood victims who need assistance,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters at a flood evacuation centre in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pandan which housed 893 victims from 238 families here yesterday. — Bernama
