Eight soldiers injured in accident in stable condition

TAWAU: Eight soldiers from the Royal Malay Regiment’s 17th Batallion who were involved in a road accident in Lahad Datu, near here on Saturday, are reported to be stable.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) deputy commander Brig Gen Subari Tomo said seven personnel sought treatment at the Lahad Datu Hospital and one at the Tawau Hospital.

“Mohamad Hardi Hafiz Othman, who is being treated at the Tawau Hospital, underwent surgery today and doctors say he is stable,” he told Bernama yesterday.

According to Subari, the seven other personnel were only treated as outpatients.

In the 10.30am incident, a soldier was killed when the military truck he and 22 colleagues were in was involved in an accident at KM4, Jalan Tengah Nipah-Lahad.

Cpl Mohd Farouk Baha, 28, from Yong Peng, Johor died at Lahad Datu Hospital at 11.15am.

The body was flown to Tawau yesterday morning and then to Kuala Lumpur before it was sent to his hometown for burial. — Bernama
