KUCHING: It was a grand finish for Miri kids in the Boulevard Shopping Mall Kids Talent Contest when they swept the top two spots.

Leonard Thian Yu Xiu from SJK Chung Hua Pujut emerged as champion in the contest’s grand finale held yesterday, with a spectacular performance as Michael Jackson which also earned him the Best Costume prize.

As champion, he won the top prize of RM1,500 cash, an Expo Furniture Town Ad 168 Angrybird Children bed worth RM1,599, three months of Music lessons worth RM450, AdJeans discount voucher worth RM350, a two day-one night stay and Hi-tea buffet at Imperial Hotel Kuching, a Gifted-Child course voucher worth RM200, an Airfare voucher worth RM300, two packs of 10 kg Butterfly rice, a Wanfa fish fillet and Lee Fah Mee hamper as well as a trophy.

His Best Costume prize carries a cash prize of RM100, AdJean discount voucher of RM100, Gifted-Child course voucher worth RM50 and a RM30 top-up coupon, one pack of 10kg.

Coming in close were SJK Chung Hua Miri contestants Chan Sin Ling and Jess Ling, forming the duo ‘BF Girls’, and as first runner-up walked away with a cash prize of RM1,000, two months music lesson worth RM300, an AdJean discount voucher worth RM200, a dinner buffet at Imperial Hotel Kuching, a Gifted-Child course voucher worth RM200, an Airfare voucher worth RM200, one pack of 10kg Butterfly rice, a Wanfa Fish Fillet and Lee Fah Mee hamper as well as a trophy.

Second runner-up was awarded to Wu Mong Jin Ling from Kuching, and they won a cash prize of RM700, a month’s music lessons worth RM150, an AdJean discount voucher worth RM150, a Gifted-Child course voucher worth RM100, one pack of 10kg Butterfly rice, a Wanfa fish fillet and Lee Fah Mee hamper, as well as a trophy.

Serian boy Zefirino Ean Robert from SK Koran emerged as third runner-up, to walk away with a cash prize of RM500m, an AdJean discount voucher worth RM100, a Gifted-Child course voucher worth RM200 and a RM30 top up coupon, one pack of 10kg Butterfly rice, a Wanfa fish fillet and Lee Fah Mee hamper and a trophy.

Fourth runner-up was awarded to Affiza Shamyara from SK Semerah Padi here, to win a cash prize of RM300, an AdJean discount voucher worth RM100, a Gifted-Child course voucher worth RM200 and a RM30 top-up coupon, one pack of 10kg Butterfly rice, a Wanfa fish fillet and Lee Fah Mee hamper and a trophy.

Meanwhile, 10 consolation prizes each — of RM150, an AdJean discount voucher worth RM50, a Gifted-Child course voucher worth RM50 and a RM30 top up coupon, one pack one of five kg Butterfly Rice, a Wanfa fish fillet and Lee Fah Mee hamper as well as trophy — were awarded to ten finalists.

The 20 finalists who participated in yesterday’s grand final were whittled down from a total of 95 initial participants from the state.

They were judged based on talent (10 per cent), creativity (10 per cent), stage performance (10 per cent), audience interaction (five per cent) as well as costume (five per cent).

The Kids Talent Contest was organised by Boulevard Shopping Mall and co-organised by PS150 Music Academy while See Hua Marketing Group were the official media partners of the event.

The main sponsors of the contest were Expo Furniture Town, Honda (Jimisar Corporation Sdn Bhd) as well as AmBank (M) Berhad.
