Rotary Club, Swinburne throw Christmas party for 190 children

KUCHING: The Rotary Club of Kuching hosted its annual children Christmas party at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus multi-purpose hall for some 190 children and caretakers from four charitable organisations here on Saturday.

According to a press statement, the guests from Sarawak Society for Parents of Children with Special Needs (Pibakat), Sarawak Association for the Welfare of Intellectually Disabled Children (Perkata), Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kuching and Society for Kuching Urban Poor were joined by members of the Rotaract Clubs of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Swinburne Sarawak.

Club president Dr Fakhruddin Dawoodi said: “Christmas is an exciting time for children. It is hoped that the event would add to the festivities and reaffirm the club’s commitment to serving the local community.”

He also expressed his gratitude to co-organiser Swinburne for sponsoring the event venue and called on the Rotary Club of Kuching to collaborate with the university in offering internships and final-year projects in community service to its students.

During the party, guests were feted to a sumptuous afternoon tea session whilst enjoying some song and dance performances.

Among those present at the event were organising committee Rotarians Raja Noor Raja Kamil, David Chan, Edwin Liew, Rita Liew, Chris Teh and George Ngui as well as Swinburne University pro vice-chancellor and chief executive Professor Anthony Cahalan.
