TUARAN: Youths from urban and rural areas of Sabah need to be mentally transformed in order to be more proactive and creative in improving their standard of living.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said this at the launching of the My Rezeki Fest 2014, a rural youth transformation programme held at Dewan Sulaman here, yesterday.

“The government has been channelling allocation to empower urban and rural youth in Malaysia, so that we have a stronger human capital by 2020.

“However, the allocation is meaningless if we cannot transform the mentality of our youth to be more proactive and creative.

“There is a need to be extraordinary if our youth want to be successful in the future.

“They cannot depend on the government allocation alone, because they need to work extra hard to achieve something in their lives,” he said to reporters after launching the event.

Earlier in his speech, Tawfiq reminded about 300 youths participating in the programme to appreciate the effort by the government in empowering the younger generation.

He said the youths should know how to find various opportunities provided by the government to ensure that all allocations channelled to the people would be fully benefited.

“I am hoping such programme could be done at the district level, because it is important to continue the transformation programme according to the vision of the Malaysian government.
