SIBU: A jobless  man snatched  his  daughter from his wife yesterday morning to stop her  (wife) from returning to Song to celebrate Christmas with her parents.

The incident caused a stir at the express boat terminal when the woman was about to board an express boat with her mother for Song shortly after daybreak.

The man came with his mother and sister.

After he snatched their toddler daughter from his wife, he fled the scene.

The woman feared for the safety of the toddler as she claimed her husband was unemployed and was frequently drinking.

She told police she had suffered enough while staying with him, and that she was married before and had two children, including a son from the first marriage.

She said she did not marry the man as he did not have an identity card. When their daughter was born, she had to register herself as a single mother.

According to her, her husband did not like to work.

She said he had done different jobs before and often ended up borrowing money from his employers before pay day.

She said he would then go missing from work and often ended up drinking with friends – until he finished all his money.

The woman said before the man snatched their daughter from her, the two had been quarrelling over whether she should return to Song for Christmas.

After the woman lodged a report yesterday morning, police managed to get the man to return the toddler to his wife.
