SIBU: The roofed car park of Sibu Town Square here turned greener when the third ‘Sibu Landscape Festival’ kicked off on Sunday.

The festival will be on until Dec 27 from 10am to 10pm daily.

The festival is jointly organised by Sibu Municipal Council and Sibu Horticulture and Bonsai Association.

One of the participants was Ting Mee Na selling grape vines she grows at her nursery New Land Nursery and Landscaping in Beruang Road here.

Most visitors to her stall were awed when Ting told them that grapes can grow in tropical weather and bear fruit all year long.

“I bought the seedlings from another local nursery. This species of grapes I am selling takes about 95 days to ripen.

“The grapes are sweet. Each vine is priced at about RM150,” she said when met at the festival site yesterday.

Besides selling seedlings for fruit trees and flowering plans, Ting is also selling two Persian kittens at RM680 each.

Some 20 stalls are selling food and drinks, organic products, nurseries and others at the festival.

SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King will officiate at the opening at 7pm on Dec 23 while his deputy Dato Andrew Wong will close the event at 7pm on Dec 27.

The programme includes a demonstration on bonsai trimming, sale of bonsai, bonsai trimming competition, and stage performances.

There are about 40 entries for the Bonsai Trimming Competition, the results of which will be announced on Dec 23.
