Man placed on remand over murder of woman

KUCHING: A 30-year-old man from Tabuan Foochow here has been arrested and placed on seven-day remand to facilitate investigation into a Kota Sentosa murder case that happened last week.

Court registrar Aida Montong allowed the remand application made by an investigation officer until next Tuesday (Dec 30) to complete their investigation document.

The suspect was arrested by a team of police from D8 of State police headquarters at his house at Tabuan Foochow around 10am yesterday.

The victim, Dawina Dunstan, 30, was found murdered – her body wrapped in a comforter next to trash receptacles at Kota Sentosa bazaar last Thursday.

She worked in Sabah and was in town for the holidays.

She had disappeared from their house at Taman Seng Goon. It was reported that she had walked to a shopping mall behind her house at Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli and failed to return home.

Her body was identified by her family members on Saturday and a post mortem was carried out on Monday.

The motive for the murder has yet to be established.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, while the accused is being remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The suspect was unrepresented when brought to Court yesterday evening.
