KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has lost about RM400,000 on metal road dividers due to vandalism along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub alone.

Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai fumed that a group of youths often used the area for illegal motorcycle racing.

“They are likely to be culprits who vandalised the dividers,” he told a press conference after a grass cutting and drain cleaning contract signing ceremony at his office yesterday.

“There have been many near misses along Jalan Tun Abdual Rahman Yaakub, Masjid Jamek, and Masja complex. I even experienced it once when I tried to avoid a motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction and wanting to cross via the divider.”

Abang Wahap described such an act as foolish and very irresponsible, especially when DBKU was trying its best to make the city clean, safe and beautiful.

He urged the public to immediately alert the authorities on all acts of vandalism. It would be even better if they could take pictures of the act itself and send it to DBKU for action to be taken.

DBKU, Abang Wahap said, would reward those who helped bring the culprits to justice.
