SUPP slams Isma, Perkasa for provocation

MIRI: SUPP has taken Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) and Perkasa to task for their provocative acts and statements in the run-up to Christmas.

The party’s secretary-general Dato Sebastian Ting said there was no place for Isma and Perkasa in the state.

Isma recently advised Malaysian Muslims that wishing Malaysian Christians a ‘Merry Christmas’ was against their faith.

“I am very disturbed that this extremist group could come up with such a statement. Malaysia prides upon itself as a country of moderation, and Malaysians have accepted each other with mutual respect all these years,” said Ting.

Ever since Perkasa and Isma emerged a few years ago, Ting observed that nothing good had come out from them.

“They preach extremist views. Instead of bringing Malaysians together, they are tearing the fabric of the Malaysian society. This attitude is not for this age and time, and is definitely not bringing Malaysians together.”

He believed that Islam preaches peace, love, goodwill, care, and harmony among all people.

SUPP, added Ting, advocated moderation and respect for all religions as all religions teach good values such as respect for each other. All major religions are against acts that threaten to destroy peace and harmony, promoting suspicion, or creating uneasiness among the people.

Ting said SUPP also condemned the act of a Perkasa protester who recently torn down a banner wishing people `Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’ in front of the Perak DAP headquarters.

“That act is provocative and certainly not an act of peace. We hope this will not happen again.

“We must be forgiving and pray for them with the hope that one day they would also join us in our journey of promoting peace, care, love, and harmony.”
