KUALA LUMPUR: China’s world champion, Chen Long snatched the world number one badminton player’s position in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings from Datuk Lee Chong Wei.

According to the BWF official website, Chen Long topped the leader board on Dec 24, after winning the BWF World Superseries title on Dec 21 by defeating Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Vittinghus 21-16, 21-10 at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai.

Malaysia’s Chong Wei dropped one rung due to his provisional suspension which started on Nov 11, due to an apparent anti-doping regulation violation.

The provisional suspension means that Chong Wei is barred temporarily from participation in any competition pending the BWF Doping Hearing Panel’s decision.

The world-governing body has imposed this suspension due to an Adverse Analytical Finding of a sample taken at the BWF World Championships in August.

Another Chinese ace, Lin Dan also dropped to sixth position while Indian K. Srikanth climbed two spots to number four. -Bernama
