KOTA KINABALU: DAP Sabah chief, Jimmy Wong Sze Phin has described PKR Inanam assemblyman Dr Roland Chia’s decision to retract his resignation as elected representative as brave and heroic.

The Kota Kinabalu MP said it would be inappropriate for Chia to continue with his plan and hastily resign even if his reason for doing so was serious health problem.

“I am happy that YB Inanam made the right decision and cancel his intention to quit.

“It is a do-or-die for the opposition and we can’t afford to lose any good leaders.

“A man has to do what he has to do and for me, what he has done was to choose to be a brave hero rather than a coward, for the rakyat,” said Wong when commenting on Chia’s decision to abandon his plan to resign.

Chia on Thursday issued a statement cancelling the announcement to step down he made on Twitter over a week ago, saying he had decided to stay on after considering feedback and suggestions from everyone during his ‘time of solitude’.

“I am glad to hear that Dr Roland Chia has retracted his resignation and to continue serving his constituency despite being burdened with health problem.

“I think this is the right decision as I believe the people of Sabah would not want to lose a great, dedicated and responsible representative to fight for their rights and the betterment of Sabah,” Wong told The Borneo Post.

He stressed the opposition in Sabah, being overwhelmingly outnumbered by Barisan Nasional (BN) in the State Assembly must press on and never give up in their struggle for the people.

The late DAP representatives from Teluk Intan and Sibu, who fought on for their people’s right to the very end while struggling with serious sickness, had set an example that should be followed by other leaders, he said.

“I, and the rest of the comrades in the opposition pray for his speedy recovery so that he would be able to serve his people at his best ability,” said Wong.
