KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah branch of Malaysia Meteorological Department has forecast that Kudat and Sandakan districts will experience monsoon rain starting Dec 28 until Dec 30 this year.

Its director Abdul Malik Tussin told The Borneo Post yesterday that the yellow stage warning had been issued to the public.

However, Abdul Malik said that the forecast did not indicate the intensity of the rain in both districts.

For Beaufort and Tenom districts, Abdul Malik informed that there is no unusual heavy rain that is forecast in the area.

“The flood situation there should recover and there is no expected weather change or heavy rain in both Beaufort and Tenom districts,” he said while adding that the rain in Beaufort and Tenom (which caused flood recently) was caused by typical rain, and not by any particular weather phenomena.

Meanwhile, warning of Tsunami has been circulating in the social media particularly on Facebook which has caused some parties to panic.

Abdul Malik urged the public not to panic and said that the warning was news from two years ago that was edited and spread.

“I wish to tell the public not worry and do not trust everything that is spread on the Internet.

“Any information online should be verified before it is shared.

“I also hope that people who are responsible in spreading false warning to stop as it will create unnecessary panic among the people,” he said.

Abdul Malik also shared that false warning had been spreading on the Internet almost every year, especially towards the end of the year following the Tsunami tragedy on December 26, 2004.
