KUCHING: The Kuching Buddhist Society English section will hold a New Year Buddha Puja themed ‘The Dhamma Heals’ to usher in 2015.

The session, organised for English-speaking Buddhists, will be held at the society’s premises at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho here on New Year’s day at 10am, said a press statement yesterday.

“In Buddhist tradition, the Buddha is described as a physician who diagnosed the ills of humanity to be basically due to lust, hatred and delusion.

“As such, He prescribed a path of morality (sila), mental cultivation (samadhi) and wisdom (panna). Everyone can have a chance to tread this path, at least the first step, by coming to this Buddha Puja.”

The statement added that the event would feature regular lamp offering, Pali chanting and the new circumambulating the holy objects (which would be merely tokens that represent actual relics of the Buddha).

“Through mindfully engaging mind-body in these rituals, we hope to harness the mind power to actualise our potentials, pacifying future hindrances and bring happiness to ourselves, others and the world.

“Members of the public (non-Buddhists included) are most welcome to this event,” concluded the statement.
