MARUDI: Iban longhouses in Poyut/Nibong area should form their own Revolution Youth Club for youths to gather to discuss matters concerning them.

This call came from Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau at the launch of New Brit Revolution Youth Club for Rumah Randie in Sg Brit and SIDS Rumah Randi Unit’s fundraising dinner at Baram Civic Centre here last night.

“We want to see a competitive culture among youths in the country, so they would be brave to do things,” Dennis said.

The Revolution Youth Club has to lighten the burden of parents by helping them or guardians provide for the needs of their children.

He cited the example of Rumah Randie Youth Club that has 43 registered members who mostly work in the town but go home to the longhouse for occasions.

Dennis said his area Poyut/Nibong is supplied with electricity and a tar-sealed road with water supply coming soon from Marudi treatment plant.

At the function, Dennis approved a RM5,000 MRP grant to New Brit Revolution Youth Club and another RM5,000 to SIDS Rumah Randi unit.

Incentives were presented to residents of SIDS Rumah Randi while students were presented with certificates.

At the dinner, Lu Awi was chosen ‘Lady of the Night’ while Cikgu James Valley Harry was ‘Man of the night’.

Others who spoke were New Brit Revolution Club chairlady Alice Jeleni Kebing and SIDS Rumah Randie Unit chairperson Fatima Slaus and Tuai Rumah Cr Randi Bundan.
