KUCHING: Police in Kuching have asked witnesses who have information on a Facebook entry that claimed to have seen an AirAsia aircraft flying very low at Kampung Buntal, here to come forward and lodge a police report.

“…news that an aircraft was spotted flying very low in the Kuching airspace has no firm evidence.

“Police are still waiting for the witness the come forward,” said Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad.

He made the request through a message sent via Whatsapp to the media, following the emergence of a Facebook entry that claimed to have witnessed a low flying aircraft in the Kuching airspace.

Meanwhile, members of the public, especially social media users, have been advised to not spread unofficial news about the missing AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said any news received must be officially confirmed by AirAsia.

“What we know is that an AirAsia flight which took off from Surabaya and scheduled to land in Singapore has been reported missing today (yesterday).

“So, we cannot speculate anything at this moment,” he told reporters in Kemaman yesterday. — Bernama
