Three Tawau schools flooded after heavy rain

KOTA KINABALU: Three schools in Sabah were flooded following the heavy downpour yesterday.

The affected schools were SK Batu 22, SK Kuala Apas and SK Wakuba all situated in Tawau.

A total of 95 teachers and 1,133 students were affected by the flood.

Meanwhile, the 23 other district education offices were unaffected by the flood, said State Education Director,Datuk Jame Alip.

Jame said that by 1.54pm yesterday, the water at SK Batu 22 and SK Kuala Apas began to recede.

“The employees at the affected schools have begun cleaning the flooded rooms. The damage was not serious. The equipment at the schools can still be used,” he said.

He also said SK Wakuba was still flooded although the water began to recede.

Also affected were the teachers’ housing and students hostel at SMK Balung.

He added that a complete report would be submitted to the Education Department later.
