According to Peryatim Sibu chairman and Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, they can opt for either a six-month or a year-long programme, in which the orphanage still houses the children but the adopting parties can even bring them out for outings.

“We truly hope that corporations and generous individuals in Sibu can come forward and adopt at least one child at the Kemuyang Road orphanage,” he told reporters after handing over school uniforms to 48 children at the complex here yesterday.

The function was organised by PBB Youth Nangka and the divisional Special Affairs Departmen (Jasa).

Adding on, Dr Annuar said those wishing to adopt a child, would need to foot about RM400 monthly.

“Prospective adopters would be furnished with the resume of the children in facilitate them for the adoption. The (children’s) academic progress would also be made available,” he said, adding that application forms could be obtained at the complex here.

Moreover, Dr Annuar also welcomed donations in cash and kind from the public for the local Peryatim, pointing out that the welfare body needed all the assistance it could get to run the orphanage.

Meanwhile Dr Annuar disclosed that Peryatim would soon hold in-house tuition for the children under its care.

“Teachers will come here on voluntary basis to assist the children with their homework, especially inexamination classes.”

On facilities, he said the Peryatim complex was well equipped.

“It houses an administration block, teachers’ quarters, dormitories, a multi-purpose hall, a dining hall, surau and a children’s playground. We also have bus service.”

Dr Annuar, however, hoped that the public could help donate a few washing machines to the home, which were deemed useful during rainy days.
