Ellen DeGeneres has perfected it (as proved at last year’s Oscars), but if your selfie skills could use improvement then you might want to enroll in what could be the first professional pout-and-shoot course.

UK college City Lit is launching what might well be the first selfie class, focusing on the art of the photographic self-portrait.

The introductory course aims to help students improve “critical understanding of the photographic self-portrait”, as well as acting as a “platform to develop ideas towards the creation of a coherent body of work”.

Students will learn about how to use space, light, detail and reference points to get the best selfie possible. Classes include lectures, seminars and group discussion and critique.

The selfie has become something of a cultural phenomenon, with accessories such as selfie hats and “sticks” now commonplace.

The month-long “The art of self portraiture” course will kick off in London this March, with the full fee set at £132 (approximately $202).
