The recent SVA meeting in progress.

SIBU: Sibu Volleyball Association (SVA) president Dr William Ting Wei Ung has called for a stop to accusations that SVA is a profit-oriented body which has resorted to selling ‘shop houses’ constructed in front of the Sibu Prudential Volleyball Stadium at Rejang Park.

The ‘shop houses,’ he said, are actually the administrative block of SVA incorporating a conference room, offices and venue for activities.

“The rumours are not only baseless but dangerous. The people should have a clear impression of the whole picture before making baseless accusations,” he stated during SVA annual general meeting recently.

SVA, he added, are awaiting the issue of the Occupation Permit (OP) by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) before applying for the installation of water and electricity.

Ting was responding to recent allegations that SVA was selling off the `shop houses’ to help finance the construction of the new stadium.

The whole episode had reportedly led to a serious misunderstanding between SMC and SVA.

Ting admitted that the administrative block resembled a row of shop houses due to its renovation structure.

“The initial plan was to cover the administrative block using a curtain wall but SVA could not afford it due to the high cost. So we decided to use aluminum frames and glass panels for the renovation,” he explained.

Ting said even if they wanted to sell the administrative block, they did not have the rights to do so.

“The property rights belong to SMC. SVA only comes in to manage, utilise and do the maintenance.”
