SIBU: The much-anticipated ‘Mitsubishi Red Peak Challenge’ that features a host of the automaker’s established four-wheel drive (4WD) models being put through tests of agility and manoeuvrability, is now in town.

The event, hosted by Jimisar Autotrade Sdn Bhd here, kicked off yesterday and would run
from 10am to 8pm at Sibu Town Square till this Sunday.

It is the third leg of Mitsubishi roadshow, after Kuching and Sarikei. The next destinations will be in Mukah on Jan 15, Bintulu (Jan 23) and Miri (Jan 30).

Inspired by Mitsubishi’s victory in last year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Challenge, the Red Peak Challenge sees 4WD vehicles such as the Triton, Pajero Sport Sports Utility vehicle (SUV) and the ASX Compact undergoing a range of challenging obstacles installed on a red mega-truck.

These tests include driving up and down a 45-degree, 25-foot high ramp; ‘driving through’ the Red Peak Challenge truck via a roller ramp, as well as manoeuvring over the side traverse and uneven ramps.

Admission to the event is free and visitors who book any of the Mitsubishi models throughout the three days will receive an exclusive Ralliart car boot organiser.

Meanwhile the first 100 people taking on the thrilling Mitsubishi Red Peak Challenge or test-driving any of the Mitsubishi cars, will each get a KFC voucher worth RM20.

For the record, test rides on the obstacle truck end at 7pm.

For the little ones, they can take part in a sand art competition offering a grand prize of a bicycle worth RM500, apart from freebies such as limited edition ‘e-Heroes’ colouring sets and origami cars.
