KUALA LUMPUR: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) is set to hand over a memorandum of understanding to the government today, requesting a revise in the imposition of online service charge of foreign worker temporary permit (PLKS).

PLKS, an online renewal system for foreign workers, was made mandatory beginning Jan 5, with a service fee of RM38 per renewal.

The renewal process, was previously done through public counter service at the immigration department, but now solely through MyEG.

ACCCIM secretary-general Datuk Low Kian Chuan said a mixed system was a fairer and better solution whereby, the online and manual system could co-exist.

He said the association was not against the government order but supported it instead, as PLKS encouraged employers to use the online system.

Nevertheless, it should not be made mandatory, he said.

“With the availability of both systems, employers would be given the choice of doing it online at their convenience, whilst those who prefer to do it manually can opt to do it over the public service counter,” he said.

Low said ACCCIM was fully aware about the changes to be made in the system, but it came into force without any advanced notice or consultation.

Under PLKS, the processing fee payable to the home ministry was revised and increased from RM50 to RM125 per foreign worker. — Bernama
