PETALING JAYA: A lawyer who was alleged to have said that Jakim promoted extremism through the Friday sermons will be remanded soon to facilitate investigations.

Federal CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said the case was being investigated under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act and handled by Bukit Aman’s Special Case Investigation Unit, in collaboration with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission.

“The police conducted a search of his office and seized a mobile phone and a computer…the suspect was arrested about 9 last night at a public parking area in Brickfields,” he told reporters during a press conference here yesterday.

The lawyer made the allegation in a Twitter posting on Friday.

The posting was deleted, however, after receiving criticism from various quarters. — Bernama
