KOTA KINABALU: The International Dental Congress will be held in Kota Kinabalu on March 21 with the theme ‘Beyond Border In Conventional Dental Care’.

Among the subjects of discussion would be on Forensic Dentistry which has elicited wide interest for its application in the spate of airline tragedies befalling Malaysia recently.

Apart from the emphasis on forensic aspects, the congress will also focus on the use of up-to-date technology in the dental industry besides current knowledge of science and its relation to oral health, such as the Ebola virus and state-of-the-art dental equipment.

This was disclosed by the honorary secretary of the Dental Association Malaysia East Zone, Dr Haji Abd Rashid Hassan, when he led a delegation to call on

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman at his official residence, Sri Gaya, here yesterday.

Dr Rashid said the courtesy call was also to inform the Chief Minister of the association’s structure, objectives and activities since the establishment of its operations centre in Sabah and Sarawak in 2009.

According to him, the Chief Minister is expected to inaugurate the congress.

Meanwhile, Musa said he hoped the congress would be a success and would bring about more benefits to the people here. He suggested that the association embark on activities to provide more social and community programs to help the needy in terms of dental care, especially in the rural areas.

A unique variation of the congress this time, would be the presence of some 30 orphans from the As-Sakinah Orphanage in Kinarut, the Hope Children’s Village in Tuaran and the Rumah Anak Kesayangan Ikhwan in Sembulan, who would be invited to receive free dental treatment, as a social service by the association.

Also present during the courtesy visit were representatives of the Malaysian Dental Association headquarters, Kuala Lumpur and Deputy Director of Health (Dental) Sabah, Dr Misliah Ahmad.
