After the run, all participants gathered to take part in the candle light-up ceremony in remembrance of QZ 8501’s victims.

MIRI: Heavy rain failed to dampen the spirit of some 22 running enthusiasts who completed the first night run held here on Wednesday.

Organised by Bulatan Park Runners Club, participants gathered at Marina commercial centre parking bay, before commencing with the 5-km run along the pedestrian pathway around the centre.

“Despite the rain which persisted since early afternoon, we were deeply impressed that they had insisted to turn up and join us for the run. More people were turning up at nearly 6.30pm which rarely happens in Miri.

“Those who turned up and completed the run, should give themselves a pat on the back,” Chai Min Yung said.

After the run, Chai said all participants had gathered to take part in the candle light-up ceremony in remembrance of QZ8501’s victims.

“The ceremony is our small gesture to mourn the victims. Besides promoting running, it is important for us to spare a little time to dedicate to humanity and those who loss their lives in the tragedy,” he said.

Meanwhile, in effort to promote running as a trendy culture, Bulatan Park Runners Club will be organizing three running event on a monthly basis – Morning Run (first Sunday of every month), Night Run (Wednesday of every second and third week) and Trail Run (Sunday of third week).

“To participate in these events, there is no need for any registration and no money is involved. All they have to do is to turn up with towel and water bottle and start running,” Tang Swee Ming, president of Bulatan Park Runners Club told The Borneo Post.

Adding to this, the club will also organise a ‘Walk for Health’ at Canada Hill on Sunday (Jan 18), from 4pm onwards. Free T-shirts will be given on a first come-first serve basis.
