MIRI: Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation of Miri will start a two-week flood relief campaign from Jan 17-31, to collect public pledges in donations for the flood victims in eight states in Peninsular Malaysia.

According to its Miri branch officer-in-charge Sim Kim Lian, volunteers of Tzu Chi will go out in full force onto streets and public places as well as shopping malls, to pledge for donations from members of the public.

“This activity is in response to an urgent call from our Dharma, Master Cheng Yen who is based in Taiwan, urging for nationwide help and relief in a bid to help those suffering from the disaster that hit Peninsular Malaysia more than a month ago,” she told thesundaypost.

She added that since last Dec 23, Tzu Chi volunteers have gradually channelled relief items such as hot food, instant rice, mineral water and blanket to states including Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang.

“To date, more than 9,600 families of the 34,914 families have benefitted from this relief. Our volunteers also helped the residents to clean-up their compound and comforted the families so that they could continue to be strong,” she said.

Those who want to donate can drop in at Tzu Chi office located in Jalan Krokop Utama (opposite Krokop 10 wet market) from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Or they could bank directly into Tzu Chi’s Maybank account 512491125872. With the bank-in receipt, donors can request for an official receipt for tax exemption at Miri Tzu Chi office.
