MIRI: Residents of Sungai Lusut No 1 Zone A, off Taman Tunku housing estate, are having sleepless nights in recent days due to the incessant downpour.

No flooding has occurred thus far, but the residents are keeping a vigil as a precautionary measure.

“As of now, the water level Sungai Lusut is moderate.

“Nevertheless, we (residents) are not taking things for granted and remain on high alert in case flood hits,” said ketua kampung Rose Sulan when contacted yesterday.

She said their focus were also on the bridge in the area. If it were flooded, it meant access to the city, to work, and school would be cut off.

Sungai Lusut No 1 Zone A is about a 20-minute drive from the city. It has about 150 houses and some 700 residents.

Rose, also a pre-school teacher, hoped the relevant authorities would look into assisting them with pre-emptive measures before disaster striked.
