HSU bans fish seed sale

AMUNTAI, South Kalimantan: North Hulu Sungai or HSU District Government bans the sale of fish seed to protect and preserve freshwater fish, Antaranews reported.

Head of the HSU Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), Sugeng Riyadi, in Amuntai on Tuesday said to minimize fish seed sale, Satpol PP conducts regular raids in locations of Banua Lima fish markets and Teluk Silaba.

“The results are as many as 10 large basin containing snakeheadfish fry, pepuyu seed and sepat seed successfully seized from the hands of merchants in the Banua Lima market,” Sugeng said through a press release.

Evidence in the form of fish fry secured and then released into the waters of rivers and swamps in order to grow and thrive.

Sugeng added, besides confiscating dozens basin of fish seed, a joint team consisting of Satpol PP, police and the Fisheries and Livestock (Diskannak) officers, also managed to secure a single engine boat (klotok) owned by merchant caught catching and sell fish seed.

“Unfortunately, the owner had escaped by plunging into the river, and is not overtaken by officers, but we managed to caught a motor boat,” said Sugeng.
