Abg Johari attends coordination committee’s meeting

KUCHING: Minister responsible for information in the state, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg, held his first meeting with committee members of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Coordination Committee (JPKKMM) at the state Information Department in Jalan Bako here on Tuesday.

The committee comprises the Malaysian Information Department, Broadcasting Department (RTM), Special Affairs Department (Jasa), Telekom Malaysia, Bernama, Pos Malaysia, Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) and National Film Development Corporation (Finas).

Accompanying him were Assistant Minister for Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, chief political secretary to the chief minister Abdullah Saidol and special officer to the chief minister Dato Norhayati Ismail, who is also former director general of Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).

In his remarks, Abang Johari, who is also the Minister for Tourism and Minister for Housing, said several pertinent initiatives that had been implemented by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem must be emphasised to the people, such as on the integrity of the government, native customary rights (NCR), reduction of electricity tariff, invoking of the State Immigration Act and illegal logging.

He said these issues must be clearly explained to the people so that they understand what the state government had been doing for them.

Meanwhile, acting state information director Zaini Mohamad, who is chairman of the committee, earlier on briefed the minister on the main roles and functions of the coordination committee.

He also briefed the minister on past achievements and activities to be carried out jointly by the committee members this year.

Previous ministers in charge of information were Second Minister for Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and the present Chief Minister,
Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Also present were all heads of departments and agencies under KKMM in the state.
