Man denies injuring youth with hammer

KOTA KINABALU: A 27-year-old man pleaded not guilty to injuring a 20-year-old youth with a hammer.

Mohd Fazali Said denied the charge which was read to him before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie.

He had allegedly wounded Joseph Lo at a restricted piece of land facing the Beverly Hills Guardhouse on January 11, at 3:30am.

The indictment falls under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum jail term of three years, a fine, whipping, or any two of such punishments.

The court fixed February 12 for the case management and granted Mohd Fazali bail of RM3,000 with two local sureties.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Lim Swee Beng prosecuted.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, a 33-year-old man was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment for possessing 0.14 grams of syabu (methamphetamine).

Tony Jaibol, pleaded guilty before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to the offence which he committed at the side of Jalan Sepanggar beside Taman Indah Peramai here, on December 18, 2014, at around 9:40pm.

Framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act, the offence is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same act with a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a prison term no longer than five years.

Tony asked that he be given a lighter sentence, though prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat urged the court to mete out a deterrent sentence.
