BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Head of Banjarmasin Water Resources and Drainage Agency Muryanta said, rivers in the capital of South Kalimantan potentially overflow, Antaranews reported.

“Rivers in Banjarmasin potentially overflowing into residential areas due to the rainy season which is quite high and shipment flows from upstream,” he said on Wednesday.

He explains, rivers potentially overflowing, especially the main river, namely River Martapura, almost has no decline, due to high rainfall and large current submissions from upstream.

“Understandably now high rainfall almost uniformly in all regions. Banjarmasin is located in the most downstream Martapura River, so the current is concentrated. As a result, tide almost not receding,” he said.

He estimated that the current water level of about 2.3 meters to 2.5 meters from the lowest tide. “What we keep it not to pass on the 2.8 meter water level,” he said.

Because, according to him, when the level reached 2.8 meters more than the lowest point of reflux, it will overflow to inundate many places in the city.

But this time, he said, Banjarmasin still safe from alarming inundation, because the case was not so long puddle, will certainly recede.
