KUALA LUMPUR: The number of evacuees at flood relief centres in Sabah and Sarawak rose this morning though the weather was reported
to be fine in several of the flood-hit areas.

Kelantan and Perak reported no change in the number of flood evacuees at the relief centres.

In Sabah and Sarawak, the number of evacuees as at 8 am reached 8,880, up by 1,468 from last night.

The total number of evacuees in the four flood-hit states stood at 9,212 this morning, up from the 7,517 last night.

In Sabah, the number of evacuees in the two districts of Beaufort and Sipitang and sub-district of Membakut rose to 5,577 from 1,743 families this morning compared to 4,118 from 1,198 families last night.

Beaufort district officer Mohd Shahid Othman said the number of evacuees at the six relief centres in the district had risen to 1,442 from 466 families compared to 1,310 from 423 families last night.

A spokesman of the Sipitang district flood operations room said the number of evacuees in the district remained unchanged at 131 from 35 families.

Membakut assistant district officer Sarudin Ismail said the number of evacuees at the five relief centres in the sub-district had risen to 4,004 from 1,242
families.

In Sarawak, the weather was reported to be fine but the high-tide phenomenon prevented the floodwaters from receding, and the number of evacuees had risen to 3,303 this morning from 3,076 last night.

A spokesman of the Sarawak National Security Council (NSC) said the evacuees were being house in 15 relief centres, six each in the Samarahan and Limbang divisions and one each in the Kuching, Mukah and Miri divisions.

Samarahan had the highest number of evacuees, at 1,397, followed by Limbang (1,219); Kuching (379); Miri (225) and Mukah (83).

In Kelantan, the weather in Kota Baharu was reported to be fine.

The 255 evacuees from 62 families were being housed at eight relief centres in Kuala Krai.

A spokesman of the Kelantan NSC said the evacuees were being accommodated in school halls, factories and mosques as their houses had been badly damaged or washed away by the floodwaters.

In Perak, the number of evacuees remained at 77 from 18 families. They are being housed at two relief centres, one in the Perak Tengah district (with 43 evacuees) and the other in Hilir Perak (34). -Bernama
