Unemployed man denies threatening mother with knife

KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed man claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to threatening his 39-year-old mother.

Mohamad Norazmi Mohamad Sharif, 24, who appeared before magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar, was alleged to have put a knife on his mother’s throat at a house at Taman Bukit Setia in Sepanggar, Menggatal at 12.50am on January 9.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which is punishable by a jail term of up to seven years and also liable to a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The magistrate set March 11 for the trial and the accused was denied bail.

In a separate case, two Filipinos were each sentenced to four months’ jail by the Immigration Court here for separate charges of entering the state illegally.

Judge Azreena Aziz also ordered for both the accused, Julandi Jaihinali, 22 and Jul Alani, 36, to be given one stroke of the cane each.

They pleaded guilty to each of the charges under Section 6 (1) (c) of the same Act which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, and with whipping, upon conviction.

The duo were arrested during separate operations in the city and Segama areas on January 13 and 16 respectively.

Prosecuting officer Inspectors Syahrin Ali and Azaman Hamat appeared for the prosecution.
