MIRI: There were 26 disciplinary cases involving General Operations Force (GOF) personnel in Sarawak last year.

Sarawak GOF Brigade commander SAC Datuk Isa Munir voiced concern over the disciplinary cases, which included drug use and crime.

“Therefore the discipline and drugs control system (SKDD) should be implemented more effectively as part of our prevention efforts,” he said during a rank promotion ceremony yesterday.

He stressed that the most important trait GOF personnel must possess in carrying out their duties is the value of integrity.

“We must think positively and deliver every task with responsibility and do not ever take those tasks for granted,” he said.

Meanwhile, during a press conference Isa said the GOF has begun its special operation to address illegal logging in the state.

“We have conducted a number of surveillance operations with the Forest Department regarding the matter, but the details I could not reveal yet,” he said.

For last year, he said 10 joint operations were conducted with the Forest Department.

“So far the situation is under control,” he said.

On flood preparations, Isa said GOF personnel are on standby mode and ready for any eventuality.

“We are ready to deploy our manpower if there are any requests for our assistance,” he said.

During the ceremony, DSP Tan Hiap Seng was promoted to Superintendent and appointed commanding officer of the GOF 12th Battalion taking over from Supt Mohammad Sar’ee Fauzi.

A total of 25 GOF personnel also received certificates of appreciation for their service excellence.
