KUCHING: The Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) welcomes champion bodybuilder Buda Anchah to assist the association in producing high calibre bodybuilders to represent the state and country.

Its president Dato Wee Hong Seng is confident that the numerous awards winner Buda is fully qualified to coach and train the state’s junior bodybuilders.

“Yes, we are happy and welcome him to come in and assist us in producing more champions like him,” said Wee when asked of Buda’s wish to become a coach of the state bodybuilding team.

“I understand he will be retiring from the Malaysian Air Force next year and he will be free to be a coach in Sarawak.”

Wee said in the past few years, those coaching the state Sukma bodybuilders were volunteers like George Awie and Nolan Chee and there was no official coach appointed by the Sarawak State Sports Council.

“We are now working on preparations for Sukma 2015 but placing more focus on Sukma 2016 when Sarawak plays host next year,” he added.

According to Wee, SBBA is trying to get more potential bodybuilders for the state Sukma bodybuilding squad and will be holding a prejudging/selection next week.

“We welcome those who are interested in bodybuilding and are under 21 years old to attend the Sukma 2015/2016 selection,” he said.

After scoring numerous successes at national and international competitions, Sarawak champion bodybuilder Buda told Utusan Borneo on Friday that he hopes to produce more bodybuilders like him to carry the state’s challenge.

The 43-year old Malaysian Air Force officer said he is ready to train the potential bodybuilders if given the chance to do so.

Buda will be retiring from the Malaysian Air Force as Warrant Officer One (WO1) and is available to take up a coach’s job.

He had just won the 2014 Armed Forces Best Sportsman award on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur. According to the Asian 2014 gold medallist from Sri Aman, there are a lot of potential bodybuilders in the state but unfortunately Sarawak lacks experienced coaches to guide them.

“Sarawak has a bright future in bodybuilding because there are many potential bodybuilders who can make it the higher level with professional and systematic training,” he said.

“I wish to contribute something to Sarawak and I will give my best and share my expertise and experience as a coach,” he said, adding that if he is appointed state coach, he would be able to look after the state’s junior bodybuilders in the Sukma XVIII squad including his son Macbeth Tubang, who is 18 years old.

Buda said Macbeth was offered to represent Putrajaya but decided to represent Sarawak instead.

Meanwhile, Buda will be competing in several international championships this year including Mr Asian in May in Cambodia, Mr Asia in Uzbekistan in September and Mr World in Bangkok in Thailand this November.
