Musa: 242 Rukun Tetangga in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government welcomes all efforts, initiatives and programs which promote continuity of the country’s development, progress and prosperity.

This includes programs that are carried out by the Unity and National Integrity Department through the Rukun Tetangga (Neighbourhood Watch) committee, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Speaking at the ‘Majlis Anugerah Perdana Rukun Tetangga 2015’ which was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin here yesterday, Musa stressed that the state government is always appreciative of the role and contribution of the Rukun Tetangga.

“I believe that the Rukun Tetangga’s various activities can contribute towards the preservation and strengthening of peace, harmony and unity of the grassroots. I therefore urge that the cooperation and coordination between the Rukun Tetangga and grassroots leaders as well as institutions such as the village head, JKKK chairman, JKDB, residents’ committee and community leaders be improved.

“This is important so that the activities and programs will bring about positive results to the community in terms of cooperation and unity in the respective areas,” Musa stressed.

At the same time, he also urged all government departments and agencies, the private sector as well as NGOs especially those in Sabah to continue giving their support to the Unity and National Integrity Department for the sake of strengthening national unity.

He expressed confidence that with solid unity and cooperation, the peace, progress and prosperity of the country can be preserved for the present and future generations to enjoy.

Musa added that when it comes to unity, the people in Sabah who are made up of various ethnicity, religion and culture are living examples of it and this has been pointed out by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak himself who said, “Sabah is the best example of the 1Malaysia spirit.

“Unity in diversity has been the way of life and culture of Sabah’s more than 32 ethnic groups in this state and we have benefited from it as a uniqueness and strength which is used to continue developing the state and increase the rakyat’s prosperity.

“This is because we realise that in order to guarantee continued development, progress and prosperity, it demands a strong sense of unity and cooperation between the leaders and rakyat on all levels,” he stressed.

Meanwhile awards were presented to the winners in eight categories namely the Pengurusan Tabika Perpaduan, Pengurusan Taska Permata Perpaduan, Projek Ekonomi Rukun Tetangga, Inovasi Rukun Tetangga, Pengurusan Rukun Tetangga, Pengurusan Jiran Muda, Pengurusan Skim Rondaan Sukarela and Pengurusan Jiran Wanita.

The winner for the Pengurusan Tabika Perpaduan category was Tabika Perpaduan Kg Tengah Lembah Gombak, Selangor while in second and third places were Tabika Perpaduan Sekama Kuching, Sarawak and Tabika Perpaduan Kuala Besut Selatan, Terengganu. In the Pengurusan Taska Permata Perpaduan (TPP), the Taska Permata Perpaduan Kuantan, Pahang, took first place followed by the TPP Taman Bertam Jaya, Melaka and TPP Taman Temiang Jaya which took second and third places respectively.

The Rukun Tetangga in Bukit Kuda Labuan FT, Telaga Batin, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu and Taman Sri Mawar Seremban, Negeri Sembilan won first, second and third places respectively in the Projek Ekonomi Rukun Tetangga category. For the Inovasi Rukun Tetangga category, the neighbourhood watch in Kg Baru Seberang Takir, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Taman Seri Impian Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang and Taman Gasing Indah Petaling Jaya, Selangor were judged as the first, second and third place winners respectively.

For the Pengurusan Rukun Tetangga category, the first, second and third place winners were Kg Gong Baru/Tok Nasek, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Jalan Usaha Kluang, Johor and Dandar Damansara, Kuantan Pahang respectively while the winners of the Pengurusan Jiran Muda category were Perkampungan Sg Isap Jaya Kuantan, Pahang, Taman Desa Indah, Klang Selangor and Kg Semaloi Mersing, Johor.

The Rukun Tetangga from Indera Mahkota Jaya Kuantan Pahang, Lubok Setol Pasir Mas Kelantan and Kg Baru Air Panas Sentul, Kuala Lumpur FT beat five other contenders to take first, second and third places respectively. In the Pengurusan Jiran Wanita category, the winners were from Dangi Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Perkampungan Sg Isap Perdana Kuantan Pahang and Gong Tok Amat/Gong Kassin Marang, Terengganu.

The state Unity and National Integrity Department also won an award for its excellent achievement of establishing a total of 242 Rukun Tetangga areas in Sabah.
